I will be representing Alternattiva Demokratika, The Green Party, at this year local council elections for the town of Qormi.
My priorities for the locality are:
Society.
I will work for more investment in public libraries. I will work to protect open spaces and give priority in residential roads to people, to increase accessibility and road safety. Work to promote pedestrianised spaces and facilities for cyclists, the elderly, persons with disabilities and parents with young children. I will work to increase the sense of community and cooperate with local organisations to organise cultural activities, educational and sports events. I will work to promote places of historical interest through publications or informational signs and promote their restoration and reuse.
Ecology.
For cleaner air, I will work for more native trees to be planted and to increase public open spaces. To increase the number of bicycle racks around Ħal Qormi. I will work to promote recycling through information campaigns and insistence on enforcement. I will also work to address the problem of air pollution created by some local bakeries by helping them convert to cleaner processes. I will lobby to stop unfettered construction in our town. I am against any extension of the development zones.
Accountability.
I commit myself to communicate clearly and honestly with residents. I insist on financial responsibility, and insist that the council does not engage in works or projects which are financially unsustainable. Transparency and financial accountability strengthens democracy.
