Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party expressed its solidarity with author Alex Vella Gera who is was going to be arraigned in court for his story containing explicit language published in Ir-Realtà. This is the second arraignment related to this issue following that of editor Mark Camilleri, for whom AD has already expressed its solidarity. The authorities are overdoing it once again.
AD said that it is unacceptable that in a democratic European society authors are persecuted for their work. Using this logic, the next step would be to start emptying bookshelves at our libraries for literature not deemed fit by the authorities. This attitude is reminscent of authoritarian and confessional societies, and should be immediately withdrawn, added AD – The Green Party.
Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party will be raising this issue in the council of European Green Parties which shall be held in Barcelona this week.
