Margo’s in Valletta

I wanted to try out the new place next to Margo’s, but my wife overruled me. We have been three times there, I was not really looking forward this time. The place, despite its beautiful architecture, looks run down, falling paint from the walls, wet stops, old carpets on the stairs..The reading of the menu margo'stakes some time, quite interesting comments on every dish. We finally ordered a pizza affumigato and a pizza mare. I remember from my past vists how delicious the affumigato pizza was. Choosing the wine was not an easy task. Only my fourth choice was available (remember the wine list contains 4 pages…), all wines were excessively prices (the Sicilian Insolia from the list costs 5.50€ in a supermarket, while being sold at 19.50€ on the menu). Well, we finally choosed some basic Italian wine. The pizza’s finaly came, with a surprise, finding Maltese sausages on the affumigato pizza. These sausages just killed the flavour of the pizza, and all my fun. Our daughter just took the short way: she spat it out and asked for some other food. I will not comment on the pizza al mare as I have never been a fan of pizza with sea food. To conclude, the service was lousy, our plates must still be on the table since we left an hour ago. Unfortunately Margo’s follows the same route as most Maltese restaurants: starting well, ending up crap..Enjoy…
