Foreign Operators Sue Netherlands Gaming Authority

NRC Q reports today that several operators, including Unibet, Betfair, Betclic, as well the European industry body representing iGaming businesses, EGBA, are suing the Netherlands Gaming Authority (Kansspelautoriteit) for privately awarding lottery licenses to the Postcode Loterij and Lotto.The operators are claiming that the decision of the Kansspelautoriteit (on the express instigation of the Dutch government) has violated EU prohibitions against private tenders.NRC Q further notes that, based on existing jurisprudence, the complainants have reason to be optimistic as regards the result of their case.
