Sky Betting and Gaming has confirmed the closure of its social gaming business.

A spokeperson for the company has confirmed that the decision had been taken after an internal review found that social games do not form part of the company’s core offering.

The division was led by Bruce Bale, a former executive at social media website Facebook, who joined the business in 2013.

In January 2015, Sky Betting and Gaming launched flagship social casino title Hollywood Slots.

In March, CVC Capital Partners completed a deal to acquire Sky Betting and Gaming from UK pay-television broadcaster Sky for £800m (€1.1bn/$1.23bn).

At the time of the initial announcement of the takeover deal in December, Sky said it would receive cash of £600 million upon completion of the deal as well as further deferred and contingent considerations up to the value of £120 million.
