It has been revealed that Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has been charged with misconduct in relation to betting.
There are a total of 12 counts against him in relation to FA Rule E8 which concerns matches played between January 22nd and January 28th 2016.
The Argentine played for his country in a World Cup qualifier against Bolivia last night and is due to return to Manchester today. His club has yet to comment on the matter.
The FA rule in question exists in a bid to stop players from placing bets on any matches or competitions globally, or indeed on any football matter such as next manager to leave or come in, transfers or on youth games.
Demichelis has until 5pm on April 5th to respond to the charges. Well known players in recent memory which have fallen foul of this rule include Andros Townsend and Bournemouth’s Dan Gosling.
The 35 year old should expect a sizable fine if found guilty; Townsend was ordered to pay £18,000 whilst Gosling shelled out £30,000.
