The 30th edition of the competition will once again see 48 managers across the Britain and Ireland undergo a mystery shop visit, before 24 regional finalists are selected to progress to an on-camera interview stage at Doncaster racecourse.

In the final stage, eight finalists will be selected from the eight regions – seven in the UK and one from Ireland – and they will gather at the annual awards ceremony at the Carlton Tower Hotel in London where the winner will be crowned.

Last year, Ladbrokes’ Matt Howe scooped the highly sought after prize, making it consecutive wins for the bookmaker.

SIS’s Paul Witten said: “We are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the SIS/Racing Post Betting Shop Manager of the Year competition. It’s the main event of the year for retail customers and a chance for the industry to honour their elite managers and recognise them for all their efforts.”

In addition to the plaudits and best wishes of the entire bookmaking industry, the winner will receive a VIP trip to one of the major race meetings in Singapore courtesy of the Singapore Turf Club, as well as being an invited guest to various SIS and Racing Post occasions throughout the year.

Reigning Betting Shop Manager of the Year, Matt Howe, commented on his year as the toast of the industry to the Racing Post: “It has been an overwhelming experience as you are thrust into the media spotlight. I walk into a room at events and people recognise me because I’m Betting Shop Manage of the Year.”

He continued: “It’s not about the brand you work for, but about how you are as a betting shop manager. If you feel you’re a good manager and you are good at your job, give it a go.”
