Bookies cool on Khan Cinco de Mayo odds

Amir Khan will head into the toughest fight of his career on Saturday night as the Brit faces the much fancied Mexican Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in what will likely be the biggest boxing match of 2016.

Khan a former British Olympic Silver Medallist (Athens 2008) has jumped up two weight classes and will be fighting for the WBC middleweight world title, though UK bookmakers, by and large, are expecting him to fail in his ambitious bid.

In yesterdays final press conference  25 year old Khan stated: “I’m going to hit Canelo and he’s probably not going to feel it, but skill is going to win it. I don’t want to be involved in exchanges, standing in front of him giving him free shots.”

He continued: “This fight I know I can be hurt so I’ll be on the edge and my defences will be sharper.”

The fight is taking place in Las Vegas during the Cinco de Mayo weekend, a cause for celebration in Canelo’s native Mexico.  In 48 bouts Alvarez has only lost once (to Floyd Mayweather ) and has won 32 bouts by knockout. However the pressure is on the young Mexican fighter to prove himself as the new King of boxing Pay Per View.

Khan is the definite outsider and is priced as high as 41/10 by Marathonbet. Khan to win by split decision is at 14/1 with Ladbrokes whilst the fight to go the distance is at 7/4 with BetVictor.
