Martin Demichelis gets £22,058 fine for betting misconduct

DemichelisManchester City defender Martin Demichelis has been fined £22,058 and warned over his future conduct after accepting an FA charge of betting misconduct.

The Argentina international was found to have breached FA Rule E8, with 29 bets placed on matches between 22nd January and 15th February this year. There is no suspicion of any form of match fixing, and the defender has avoided a suspension.

The Rule E8 was brought in during the 2014/15 season to prevent players and coaches from betting on any Football activity.

An FA statement confirmed: “The Manchester City defender breached FA Rule E8 in respect of 29 bets placed on football matches between 22 January 2016 and 15 February 2016.”

Demichelis has made over 100 appearances for Manchester City since joining from Malaga for a reported £4.2 million three seasons ago. He is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium this summer and is unlikely to be offered a new deal.
