Boris throws in the towel with May day now firm favourite

BetVictor has made current Home Secretary Theresa May its 2/5 favourite to be the next leader of the Conservative party after Boris Johnson sensationally ruled himself out of the race in a speech yesterday lunchtime. Boris-johnson

That morning Justice Secretary Michael Gove, another Leave campaigner, had announced he would be standing and the odds proceeded to fluctuate amidst these confirmations. It came as something of a surprise to a great many that Boris, the leader of the victorious ‘Leave’ campaign, would not be standing for PM.

In his speech Johnson discussed the next Prime Minister’s responsibilities, he said: “Having consulted colleagues and in view of the circumstances in Parliament, I have concluded that person cannot be me.”

BetVictor Spokesperson Charlie McCann said: “BoJo had been an uneasy favourite for the race and when Michael Gove, considered an advocate of Johnson, announced he was standing the writing was on the wall for the former Mayor of London.”

“Andrea Leadsom, another key figure in the successful Brexit campaign has thrown her hat into the ring and is now 4/1 the same price as Gove.”
