Jonas Lygaard, Senior Director of Brand and Business Development at Konami said: “As the PES series continues to go from strength to strength, we are exploring a number of ways to build its reputation within the esports sector.

“Later this year we will be integrating the hugely popular PES League element as a dedicated mode within PES 2017 and future iterations, allowing organised competitions to become easily accessible to absolutely anyone owning a PES title.”

The new title will be released on September 15th, giving it two weeks freedom ahead of the release of FIFA 17. With partnerships having been signed with the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Dortmund, not to mention an impressive demo with astounding graphics, this could be the year the playing field is leveled once again with FIFA.

It’ll be a tough challenge to tear Ultimate Team obsessed fans away from the number one football gaming franchise, though if PES 2017 can add those missing elements such as online leagues and a competitive element, it has a fighting chance.

Last year’s title excelled in terms of gameplay but was let down by a lack of enjoyable features and online play. Let battle commence.
