Odds on Trump shortest to date after Hillary falls ill

The odds for Donald Trump to succeed Barack Obama as US President have now fallen to just 11/8 with Betway after Hillary Clinton fell ill on the campaign trail. hillaryclinton

These are the shortest odds for Trump since the bookmaker opened this market.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s odds have lengthened from 2/5 to 8/15 as she was forced to cancel two full days of public appearances due to ill health.

The former Secretary of State appeared to faint at a 9/11 memorial service in New York and is thought to have contracted pneumonia after a bout of seasonal allergies.

Prominent third party candidate Gary Johnson is priced at 200/1 to pull off a shock victory.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Hillary’s illness couldn’t come at a worse time as the race had narrowed significantly in the past fortnight, with Trump gaining three or four points in the polls. Now presented with a 48-hour window without his rival on the campaign trail, Trump could make further inroads as we approach the all-important debates.

“However, Hillary is still our odds-on favourite to be the next President and Trump will need an impressive, composed performance during the debates to convince undecided voters in key swing states to give him their vote.”
