Matchbook – Sponsor Profile – #bofcon2017

Matchbook is sponsoring Betting on Football 2017, the fourth edition of the largest international football and betting trade conference at Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge.

On the second day of the event (3-5 May), we spoke to Matchbook Director of Business Development Director Bradley Morrish about why football is such an attractive sport for betting, how the market is changing from a consumer perspective, and how stakeholders can work more effectively together.

SBC: Why is football such an attractive sport for betting?

BM: Simply put, football is the most popular sport in the world. And with more access to data and live footage than ever before, betting on football has become a huge part of the experience.

SBC: From a consumer perspective, how is football betting changing?

BM: The volume of data now available has empowered bettors to make smarter, more informed bets. Gone are the days of tipsters betting on a hunch; bettors want hard facts before they place their bets.

SBC: How can betting & football stakeholders work better and more effectively together?

BM: We can start by getting together more often in an effort to keep the market healthy so that it can continue to grow and thrive. Working more closely will allow us to have more meaningful discussions about the huge possibilities before us, as well as ensure we’re adequately protecting and monitoring those involved in the game.

SBC: What new technology do you feel will have the biggest impact on football betting?

BM: Speed is king. Tech developments that enable faster bet placement will win out with bettors. Combine that with software that improves access to the growing volume of data, particularly in-play, and you have the potential to make significant waves in tomorrow’s betting trends.

SBC: What key agenda, debate or discussion do you want to hear at BOFCON 2017?

BM: The discussion closest to our heart is certainly the Future of Betting Exchanges. While it’s an agenda item 365 days of the year, Betting On Football positions us in the collective conversation, where we can both listen and lead the conversation.

We’re a rare breed, which makes things equal parts exciting and challenging.
