US industry body The American Gaming Association (AGA) is reported to be making its biggest push for legalising sports betting within the USA by spearheading the creation of the ‘American Sports Betting Coalition’ (ASBC).
The ASBC has been created with the goal of finally repealing the controversial 1992 ‘Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act’ (PASPA), which at present only allows licensed sports betting in the state of Nevada.
The ASBC will lobby US Senators to repeal all federal laws prohibiting sports betting, and to push a regulatory and licensing agenda for a national sports betting framework to be discussed by US Congress.
This week the Association held private meetings with US Player Association representatives for NHL, NFL, NBA and MLB athletes, as well as further US sports stakeholders to discuss how licensed sports betting could be implemented within the US.
The AGA stated that the meetings were held in order to respond all US stakeholder concerns regarding licensed betting, and how to implement effective policy and regulation with would take-in all dynamics of US Sports commercial value chain (marketing, data, media rights, athlete representation, etc..)
The meetings were headed up by AGA CEO Geoff Freeman, who would detail to US sports media channels that he was pleased with the collaboration, and that he felt that multiple sports stakeholders were prepared to finally progress on the matter of legalising sports betting.
AGA and ASBC founding members have launched a website, detailing further information for US stakeholders and further interested parties.
