The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has this morning confirmed the appointment of Neil McArthur as Chief Executive.
Since March, McArthur has been acting as UKGC interim CEO, following the departure of former Commission leader Sarah Harrison MBE.
In previous executive roles for UKGC McArthur has served as the Commission’s General Counsel, leading the regulatory body’s legal oversight on licensing, enforcement and compliance directives.
Confirming the appointment McArthur as UKGC leader, Bill Moyes, Chair of the Commission, said
“Neil’s appointment is great news for the Commission. He brings to the role a thorough understanding of gambling issues and regulation, along with a proven commitment to making gambling fairer and safer.”
“I’m looking forward to working even more closely with Neil as he leads the Commission to make significant progress in raising standards, protecting consumers and the public from gambling-related harm and improving the performance of the National Lottery.’’
McArthur takes leadership of the UKGC in a transformative year for the UK betting/gambling sectors. At present industry, stakeholders await the final judgement and new policies relating to FOBTs machine wagering and industry-wide advertising standards.
Furthermore, UK licensed operators have been urged to improve social responsibility standards, financial controls and their contributions to industry charity GambleAware.

“I am really proud of the Commission’s achievements over the last 12 years, but there is a lot more to do. Ensuring consumers are empowered to make informed choices about gambling while addressing and reducing the harms that can come from gambling is a challenge that cannot be overcome by us alone.”
