CDI teams with SBTech to enter US iGaming & sports betting

Announcing its entry into real money online gaming and sports betting markets, Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has penned a strategic partnership with SBTech to utilise the firms integrated technology platform.

The move will see SBTech supply a US facing iGaming platform allowing CDI to manage both its sports wagering and iGaming operations, in the aftermath of the US Supreme Court’s decision to fully repeal PASPA.

Through the agreement, it’s detailed that the integration will consist of the consumer website, mobile apps and back office systems.

“We both share a deep commitment to technological innovation and excellence, and we look forward to working with them during this exciting time in the history of the U.S. gaming market.”

The partnership is to initially target the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with the iGaming and sports betting verticals already approved, in addition to allowing CDI to also enter Mississippi for sports wagering, subject to the states issuing gaming licence approvals and finalising regulations.

CDI has also announced a new agreement with Golden Nugget Atlantic City, to enter into the New Jersey real money online gaming and sports betting market, subject to sports wagering legislation and gaming licence approval, with a target of Q1 2019 to begin accepting wagers.

The US horse racing, gaming and entertainment giant also details that it has purchased the Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Pennsylvania, which will see iGaming applications, whilst two brick and mortar casinos owned in Mississippi will be utilised to offer on property sports betting products.

Bill Carstanjen, Chief Executive Officer of Churchill Downs, added: “We are confident that our strategic partnership with SBTech provides us with an industry leading platform to offer innovative and exciting, integrated iGaming and sports betting products.

“We have the unique opportunity to leverage our knowledge and experience operating the largest legal online horse racing wagering business in the U.S. as we enter the iGaming and sports betting markets.”
