Johnny Avello lands key role at DraftKings

Sports betting platform provider DraftKings has confirmed the appointment of Johnny Avello as a director on its rapidly growing sportsbook operations team.

Avello boasts over three decades of experience in gaming and is widely respected throughout the sportsbook industry as an innovative, forward-thinking leader and an early proponent of mobile sports betting.

He becomes the latest key acquisition for DraftKings, having joined from Wynn Resorts, his initial role at DraftKings includes oversight of retail sportsbook trading and risk management.

Prior to joining the firm, Avello spent 13 years as the executive director of the Wynn Las Vegas sportsbook.

DraftKings’ chief revenue officer and co-founder, Matt Kalish, commented on the appointment: “Johnny is considered a legend in Las Vegas. He is very respected in the gaming industry and brings well over 30 years of experience, insights and ideas to DraftKings.

“We’re committed to building a world-class sports betting operation by putting together amazing talent with diverse experiences and backgrounds, and Johnny’s arrival brings us one step closer to that goal.”

The appointment acts as part of DraftKings’ continued expansion, after it also recently signed a fresh partnership with global sports technology and entertainment company, iSport Genius.

Commenting on what that partnership means to iSport Genius, the firm’s co-founder and partner, Nathan Rothschild stated: “We are delighted to mark our expansion into the US by partnering with DraftKings, a proven market leader in fantasy sports which has it perfectly positioned to dominate sports betting.”
