Paddy Power Betfair sets up ‘Alpha Hub’ Romania accelerator to tackle responsible gambling dynamics

FTSE100 betting group Paddy Power Betfair Plc (PPB) has announced the launch of its Cluj Romania ‘Alpha Hub’ accelerator program, focusing on enhancing the industry’s responsible gambling and sustainability dynamics.

The accelerator programme sees PPB partner with Romanian technology enterprise groups’ Techsylvania and Risky Business Romania, seeking to open its initiative to the top development and engineering talent.

For a number of years, PPB has been a significant stakeholder in the Romanian tech scene, with the company choosing the city of Cluj to house its tech development and support centre.

The Alpha Hub accelerator is set to be led by PPB senior tech strategy lead Rob Smith, seeking to find innovative ways to tackle industry legacy challenges.

The Alpha Hub programme is set to begin on 20 November, with Smith and PPB teams assessing start-up concepts tackling digital complexities such as customer matching, identity verification, retention and analysis.

PPB development will support the most successful concepts and its developers with funding, and resources to take the projects further.

“The Responsible Gambling Concept is one of our key priorities at Paddy Power Betfair, and this initiative will help us find new ways to identify and protect customers at risk. Alpha Hub is an excellent opportunity for Paddy Power Betfair to get closer to the tech startup ecosystem, and we’re looking to partner with startups that can help us solve real business challenges” Smith stated to Romanian business news sources.
