Lottoland granted licences to launch in South Africa

Online lottery operator Lottoland has been granted two licences by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board in South Africa.

One of the licences is a bookmakers license that enables the operator to offer fixed odds betting contingencies to South African customers.

The second is a manufacturing license, allowing Lottoland to develop and use the company’s own software for its business operations.

Lottoland CEO Nigel Birrell said: “We are pleased to have been granted these licences in South Africa. Lottoland now holds 12 regulated licenses around the world – a great achievement for us and testament to us as a global brand and company.

Following the license award, the country’s website has gone live, giving South African players the opportunity to bet on the outcome of more than 30 lotteries from around the world.

This will be the first time that residents of South Africa can play the US Mega Millions and the Powerball, along with the European jackpots.

The manufacturing licence will allow Lottoland’s B2B division, Lottoland Solutions,  to partner with other licensed African bookmakers that seek to offer similar international jackpots to their existing customer base.

Birrell continued: “We strongly believe that Lottoland is uniquely placed in the South African market to be able to offer our portfolio of fixed-odds lottery products and insurance-related services giving South Africans the opportunity to win some of the largest jackpots in the world.”
