Finland’s Police and Transport and Communications Agency Traficom are going to work alongside one another to prevent illegal gambling ads on television and radio.

Veikkaus, the Finnish national betting agency which is fully owned by the Finnish government, is the only betting agency permitted to run and market gambling of any kind across the country, with any other marketing operations pertaining to the gambling industry strictly prohibited. Earlier this year, Veikkaus announced that it this has been attributed to intensifying digital competition and business shifting onto digital channels.

National Institute for Health and Welfare in Finland has previously issued a statement calling for more stringent regulations to be put in place regarding gambling marketing in general and that Veikkaus’ marketing communication should follow the same lines as the state’s health policy communication.
