Gauselmann appoints Mattias Dahms to lead Merkur Sports ambitions

Bolstering its sportsbook profile and capacity, German omni-channel gambling operator Gauselmann Group has confirmed the appointment of Mattias Dahms as Managing Director of subsidiary Merkur Sports & Gaming.

A renowned figurehead within German sports betting, Dahms has formerly served as Chief Executive of Gauselmann-owned DACH region sports betting property  XTiP Sportwetten (2014-2019).

Gauselmann confirms that Dahms remit will see the executive focus on positioning and strategising the group for the future opening of a fully licensed sports betting sector within Germany, with the market due to be regulated from 2020.

During H1 2019, Germany’s Bundesrat sanctioned that a provisional sports betting licensing regime would come into force from 1 January 2020 to 30 June 2021, as Germany’s sixteen states move to form a federal arrangement on online gambling.

Supporting Gauslemann directives, Dahms is the current President of German sports betting trade association – Deutscher Sportwettenverband (DSWV).

“Mathias Dahms will continue to work closely with the management of Merkur Sportwetten and strategically develop the sports bet in the Gauselmann Group,” the company has confirmed. “Key topics for the future include the convergence and digital transformation of the various forms of gaming that the group offers today.”
