TAB urges punters to ‘spend local’ in support of Australian racing

Tabcorp Holdings’ flagship sportsbook property TAB has launched its new “Back the Industry campaign, urging punters and businesses to support Australian racing during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Despite all Australian professional sports leagues postponing their imminent 2020 schedules, Australian horse and greyhound racing remain as the last organised sports still operating during the Australian COVID-19 lockdown, maintaining all meetings behind closed doors.

Tabcorp’s new campaign seeks to highlight TAB’s ‘integral position’ in supporting Australian racing stakeholders and the long-term sustainability of the sport.

Campaign narrative has focused on the TAB returning more than 4x of sums to the racing industry than its betting rivals to all codes of Australian racing. Tabcorp’s figure is attributed to betting turnover recorded during 2019.

TAB urges punters to remember the ‘thousands of racing workers’ (breeders, stable hands,  hospitality, etc) whose livelihoods depend on the sport, underlining that in ‘times like this spending local means so much’.

Launching the campaign, Tabcorp Managing Director of Wagering and Media Adam Rytenskild said: “Bet with TAB is about celebrating and backing those who are integral to our racing industry.

“We know how important the participants who work both behind the scenes and in the spotlight are to keeping racing going, especially during these times of uncertainty.”

“As an Australian company, we understand the importance of TAB giving back greater than four times more than our competitors to all three codes of racing in Australia, helping the sustainability of the sport we all love.

“The Australian racing industry employs over 100,000 people and we at TAB are very proud to play a part in supporting racing and Australian communities at this time
