William Hill closes Stockholm Gametek office

William Hill Plc has begun the phased closure of its ‘Gametek Office’ in Stockholm, a decision the FTSE betting group has undertaken to simplify its operating structures.

Issuing a statement to SBC, William Hill brands its Stockholm office closure as ‘a natural step’ in the firm’s integration of MRG Group assets within its wider organisation.

William Hill will move to close Gametek offices entirely by the end of 2020 trading. The betting group confirms that all 57 Stockholm employees have been offered the opportunity to transfer to either the firm’s head office in Leeds or to its tech development unit in Krakow Poland.

Supporting the transition, William Hill confirms that it will bolster its Krakow tech unit with a further 50 new roles created, supporting global growth projects.

It said: “We’re adopting a team-based approach to product development in which teams are aligned to the business area they support. This requires us to structure the right number of teams, with the right skills, which means we’ve had to make some tough decisions about locations. Our intention is to close the Stockholm office by the end of the year, migrating the work and potentially in some cases colleagues to Krakow or Leeds.”

William Hill continues to restructure its operational frameworks under the leadership of Group CEO Ulrik Bengtsson. The firm has set about bolstering its digital presence internationally, whilst accelerating US market joint-venture partnerships.
