Adam Hyeronimus charged over betting breaches
Sydney jockey Adam Hyeronimus has been charged with multiple betting offences after it was found he had been wagering on races between 2016-2019.
Reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, Hyeronimus was found guilty of 30 out of 31 illegal betting charges in addition to providing false evidence to a stewards’ enquiry.
Hyeronimus had placed bets of $500 on two horses that he was riding, as well as 29 bets on thoroughbred horse racing between 2016 and 2019.
Racing NSW stewards found Hyeronimus, alongside associate Blake Paine, guilty with the jockey facing a potential minimum two-year ban from racing. The severity of the sentence will be decided in due course.
The bets, which were placed through Paine, reportedly ranged from $100 to $2000 over the three-year period, with bank transfers, phone records and betting statements used to support the stewards’ case.
The jockey would often transfer money to Paine, which tended to be labelled ‘savings’ or ‘gift’. Once the funds arrived in Paine’s account, it was subsequently transferred to a second account depositing the same sum into his Sportsbet account.
“Having regard to AH not transferring funds into BP account prior to the bet being placed, the Stewards are not satisfied to the requisite standard that Mr Paine placed the bet for Mr Hyeronimus,” the stewards report read.
