DraftKings launches SBTech-powered sportsbook in Ireland

DraftKings has gone live in Ireland after launching a new online sportsbook as its first international test for its new in-house SBTech platform provider.

The soft launch of Sportsbook.draftkings.ie marks the operator’s first launch outside of the US. The sportsbook is registered by Crown Gaming Malta Ltd under a remote bookmaker’s license issued by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.

The Irish sportsbook has been launched as a test domain for DraftKings, as the Nasdaq firm prepares to shift its wagering operations from the Kambi platform to SBTech systems – a key technology migration for DraftKings future endeavours.

The site is purely sportsbook based at the minute, with markets also offered on local sports such as Gaelic football and hurling. However, media sources have reported that the operator is looking to eventually offer an online casino offering – something that is not currently permitted under Irish gambling legislation.

This is not the operator’s first foray into the Irish market, having previously launched its daily fantasy sports operations in Ireland back in 2017.

In addition, DraftKings opened its first international offices in Dublin, which has recently been expanded to support a growing Irish team focused upon technology.

This week, DraftKings CEO Jason Robins will launch the inaugural SBC Summit Barcelona – Digital, hosting the event’s keynote webcast on 8 September, discussing global betting’s radically changing business dynamics alongside Sportradar CEO Carsten Koerl.
