The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) has reported a 41% year-on-year increase in suspicious betting alerts for 2020.

In total, the GLMS sent out 1113 alerts to its members, of which 936 were generated before matches started, 27 during play and 150 at the end of matches.

Football accounted for the lion’s share of member alerts, at 832, followed by 134 for basketball, 55 for ice hockey and 50 for tennis. Esports, volleyball, handball, table tennis, badminton, American football, baseball and sepak also generated a handful of alerts each.

Europe suffered the most with 727 alerts, while Asia had 191, South America 90, North America 64, Africa 23 and Oceania 7.
