Gambleless app reaches £100k milestone in resource provisions
Gambling addiction tracking app Gambleless has given away more than £120,000 worth of psycho-educational resources regarding gambling addiction.
The app was initially launched in September 2020 and offers a range of resources to those suffering from gambling addiction, such as informative articles, a self-care diary, an emergency chat-bot, diagnostic tests and coping-skills exercises.
It was created by the same team behind the Mindspa app, which targets a wider audience on mental health topics. The apps have a combined register user count of over 250,000, gathered within the space of a year.
Gambleless and its creators aim to address the mental health of individuals predisposed towards gambling addiction.
In addition to the aforementioned initiatives, the app also offers programmes on emotional intelligence, loneliness, stress and jealousy, and features a collection of hundreds of coping skill exercises on anger, anxiety, resentment and guilt, among others.
The organisation emphasises the affiliation between gambling and mental health with statistics claiming that 43% of problem gamblers have alcohol issues, 25% suffer from drug misuse, and 60% have battled anxiety and depression.
Data gathered anonymously by the app show that 27% of its registered users are located in the UK and Ireland, 24% in the USA, 12% in Australia, 10% Italy and 5% in Canada.
Although the apps users are located in over 30 different countries, a handful of these territories represents three-quarters of the total user base.
As smartphones are commonplace in 80% of countries, Gambleless’ creators are hopeful that the initiative will prove to be a successful measure in treating gambling addiction due to the ease of accessing resources as well as the privacy associated with it.
The data comes at a time when the UK is undergoing a significant review of the 2005 Gambling Act, with a ban on betting operators sponsoring professional sports teams a likely outcome, in addition to the introduction of stricter affordability checks.
