Stats Perform expands Bundesliga operations with Bayer Leverkusen agreement

Sports tech provider Stats Perform has expanded its presence in the German Bundesliga following an agreement with Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

The partnership will see Bayer utilise the firm’s Edge Analysis match preparation tool, which applies unique AI models to unlock, dynamic, predictive and objective insights – powered by tracking and event data – to improve pre and post-match analysis.

Several key features in the platform are powered by integrated tracking data supplied by the German Deutsche Fußball Liga’s (DFL) in-house data provider Sportec Solutions.

“We are delighted to be enhancing existing processes currently in place at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and supporting them with access to unique insights delivered through our patented AI models that can only be found in Edge Analysis,” said Stephen Hanke, Vice President of Sales in Europe at Stats Perform.

Bayer will benefit from performance insights on opponents, such as playing characteristics, ball progression, the impact each player has on generating goal scoring opportunities and changes to their shape during a game.

“This is my fourteenth year in professional football and I’ve worked with the team at Stats Perform for a long time,” added Marcel Daum, Co-Trainer Analyse in the Sport Department at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

“Edge Analysis enables us to take the step from descriptive analysis to predictive analysis, which I think is the future of performance analysis in football. This is what makes Edge Analysis different from other industry tools, and it was the main factor in our decision to work with the platform.”

In addition to the Bundesliga, the Edge Analysis platform has already been implemented in other European leagues.

Stade Rennais of France’s Ligue 1 utilised the tool ahead of the 2019/20 campaign which saw the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history. Additionally, the platform has also been used in Italy’s Serie A.

Other notable Stats Perform clients include New Zealand Cricket (NZC), the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the European Handball Federation (EHF).
