GamCare to maintain dedicated women’s support programme

GamCare will continue to host its dedicated online chatroom sessions aimed at women and those who identify as female, irrespective of the UK government continuing to ease national lockdown restrictions.

The treatment support charity launched its dedicated women’s sessions during 2020, as part of its problem-gambling support programme during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A dedicated chatroom was established following concerns raised by GambleAware highlighting NHS research revealing that women experience deeper anxieties and social stigma in confronting their gambling disorders and seeking help for addiction.

Gamcare will host its next women’s chatroom session on Saturday 12 June from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm (gamcare.org.uk/get-support/group-chatroom/) – maintaining all resources of its Women’s Support Programme.

“Women can be disproportionately negatively impacted by gambling-related harms, which include financial, relationship and mental health issues.” GamCare’s statement read

“GamCare’s Women’s Programme works to support women affected by gambling harms to access the support they need. Our team will be supporting this dedicated chatroom for women, offering a safe space to share experiences and understand how your experiences can influence better responses for women across gambling support and treatment services.”

This week, GamCare published its new 2021-to-2024  organisational strategy, outlining the charity’s mission to ensure that problem gambling treatment resources and tools were maintained across all UK public health networks.

In its new mandate, the charity aims to remove all treatment barriers for women and low income and ethnic communities seeking treatment and support for gambling risks.
