U.S. Teenagers Happy To Invest in Crypto, Survey Shows

A recent survey has shown that American youngsters are increasingly acknowledging cryptocurrency amidst a growing popularity in the United States. Polled by Junior Achievement USA, the results show that 1 out of 4 U.S. teenagers would prefer crypto investments over those in the stock market.

The survey included 1,004 respondents and mainly focused on U.S. teens perceptions towards the stock market. When asked if the stock market is a good investment option, about half (51%) said it indeed is “a good thing” for ordinary people. However, interestingly enough, the remaining 49% then do not believe it to be a good investment option. Hence those are more inclined towards crypto as alternative. Of the respondents 25% explicitly confirmed that they would prefer to invest in crypto. Real estate is also hot among the youngsters with 24% picking real estate as a preferred investment option. And perhaps most surprisingly, 37% said they would not invest at all.

Internet & Social Media

Numbers are impressive, especially when considering how “new” crypto currently is. However, with social media influences, crypto has been receiving prominent attention, especially this year. The effect of the internet on this new generation of investors also shows in the survey results. They would rather turn to social media for investing advice and information, than by taking this from their parents. Lastly, data also shows that these kids would rather not take advice given by their teachers in school when it comes to where to put their hard-earned money.

President and CEO of Junior Achievement USA Jack E. Kosakowski, said about their findings:

“These results show that the recent ‘meme stock’ phenomenon could be having an adverse impact on teens’ perceptions of what it means to invest in the stock market. Given the fact that the stock market plays a major role in helping countless Americans achieve a secure retirement, it’s important that we help demystify it for the next generation.”
