Visa Launches NFT Support Program in Partnership With Former MLB Star
Financial services giant Visa is launching a non-fungible token (NFT) program to support artists joining the digital art space.
Visa is partnering with ex-Major League Baseball player Micah Johnson, who recently turned NFT artist. The idea is to offer a program that will support artists wanting to use NFTs to sell their work, a press release said.
The former second baseman and outfielder for the White Sox, Dodgers, Braves and Rays is the creator of Aku, an animated black astronaut character, which was released in February 2021 on Nifty Gateway and raised more than $2 million in NFT tokens in 24 hours. Johnson said:
“Working together, we want to arm creators with the resources they need to stay at the forefront of this revolution.”
The initiative will see a small group of creators selected through an application process. Next, they will learn all ins and outs about the crypto and blockchain industry.

The past months saw the launch of a number of NFT marketplaces. After Binance and FTX already operating their own marketplace. On Tuesday, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase became the latest organization to join the space. According to data from DappRadar, Q3 of 2021 was good for over $10 billion in NFT sales.
