Twitch Confirms Massive Overhaul of Gambling Related Content

Twitch has confirmed to be carrying out “a complete overhaul” of  online gambling, gaming  and betting content on its streaming platform.

In an interview with Bloomberg which has reported on online gaming and Twitch streamers and users, a platform representative confirmed that the company is indeed “currently in the midst of an in-depth review of gaming behavior on Twitch.”

“We take any potential harm to our community very seriously,” the representative said, adding that “while game content represents a very small fraction of the content streamed on Twitch, we monitor it closely to ensure our approach mitigates potential harm to our global community.”

Enforced on August 17 of 2021, Twitch authorities had already placed new restrictions in order to prevent harm and scams by questionable gambling services that sponsor content on Twitch by effectively banning gambling-related links and referral links.

The Bloomberg article furthermore highlighted the efforts of streamer  Felix “xQc” Lengyel and American rapper Drake, for bookmaker Stake.com during live streams.

Two other popular streamers on Twitch are Trainwreckstv and Tyceno, representing the likes of Stake.com and Roobet with the former having a massive following of 1.5Million people. Both like to mix in casino games with video games on their channels. Other brands having their representation on Twitch are Slottyvegas, Mr Green and PokerStars via their brand ambassadors, for example Lex Veldhuis, a popular Dutch poker streamer.
