A stalemate with Slovakia meant that England failed to top their group, with Wales emerging the unlikely victors. 
The aftermath leaves Roy Hodgson’s chances of staying on as England manager rather low, and William Hill has priced it at 4/7 that Hodgson will not be leading the side come the World Cup in 2018.
William Hill Spokesman Rupert Adams said: “England have qualified but will now have to do things the hard way, which could make it difficult for Roy Hodgson to achieve his aim of leading England into the World Cup.”
Hodgson is priced at 5/4 to still be in the job in the summer of 2018.
William Hill is also offering odds on the selections Hodgson makes for the next game with both Vardy and Sturridge at 4/11 respectively to start once more.
Wales’ win over Russia ensured they won the group but it’s as yet unclear which third placed team they’ll face in the next round. The Dragons have had their odds cut from 66/1 to 40/1 to do the impossible and win the tournament, but with a potentially tough opponent in the round of 16 they’re 11/10 to bow out at the next stage.
William Hill’s Adams said of Welsh factor: “Wales clearly believe in themselves and they could be the second fairytale of the year, after Leicester won the Prem. It could all just prove too much for BBC pundit Robbie Savage.”
