Prominent UKIP leadership candidate Suzanne Evans has put party politics on hold and backed Andrea Leadsom’s bid to become Conservative party leader. 
Evans accepted a free £500 charity bet from Star Sports and backed Leadsom at odds of 5/2. All the winnings will go to Lipoedema UK, a charity that Evans has run since 2011.
Evans said of the news: “I’m delighted to back Andrea for the Conservative leadership- she’s someone I particularly enjoyed campaigning with during the referendum and would be a fantastic Prime Minister.
It’s important that our next Prime Minister that believes in a United Kingdom free from the shackles of the EU, and Andrea has proved her to be so passionate about our exciting future ahead.”
She continued: “Lipoedema UK is doing important work in supporting members and allied health care professionals, publicising research and providing outreach for the general public. I’d urge anyone affected with Lipoedema or keen to learn more to please visit http://www.lipoedema.co.uk.”
