Betway grounds Gatwick’s new runway odds

The odds on Gatwick beating Heathrow in the bid for a new runway have been cut to 4/7 by Betway.

It is now expected that Heathrow Airport will lose out in the runway battle as Betway lengthened these odds to 5/4.

Betway’s Alan Alger stated: “Increasing UK airport capacity is broadly supported by most MPs, but the devil is in the detail and with a razor-thin majority of 12 in the Commons, new Prime Minister Theresa May has a very difficult decision to make.”

Betway has suggested that Gatwick’s chances have been given a boost by Sadiq Khan’s election as Mayor of London as well as the appointment of a number of MPs that are anti-Heathrow to Theresa May’s newly appointed cabinet.

Naturally MPs typically oppose expansion near their home constituencies and Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith has gone so far as to promise to trigger a by-election if Heathrow is given the go ahead for expansion.

Uxbridge and Ruislip MP and new Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has made similarly bold promises to ‘lie down in front of bulldozers’ to prevent a new runway being built.
