Valve issues cease and desist notice to 23 skins betting sites

Valve has followed up on its announcement with action by issuing cease and desist notices to no less than 23 skins betting sites.

Most notably this included CSGO Lounge, a hugely popular site for betting with skins from the game. Another site, CSGOBig, published a copy of the letter it received which also listed all of the sites targeted in the initial crackdown. CSGOBig

The decision to include CSGO Lounge in proceedings is a major one, and one which appears to signal the seriousness of the developer’s intent to curb esports skins betting. After all there is no doubt that the popularity of skins betting has seen a rise in the viewership of CSGO streams, and increased interest in the title in general.

The letter from Valve said: “Under the SSA Steam and Steam Services are licensed for personal, non-commercial use only. Your commercial use of Steam accounts is unlicensed and in violation of the SSA. You should immediately cease and desist further use of your Steam accounts for any commercial purpose.”

The following sites were included the circulation of the letter: CSGOLounge, CSGOStrong, CSGODouble, CSGO500, CSGOCosmos, CSGOCasino, CSGO2x, CSGOHouse, CSGOatse, Societylogin, dota2lounge, CSGOcrash, CSGOLotto, CSGOBig, CSGOSweep, CSGOFast, CSGOMassive, CSGOBattle, skins2, CSGOPot, CSGOWild, and bets.gg.
