UK High Court greenlights Aspers Southampton super casino

The governance of UK gambling operator Aspers Group (Aspers), states that it will go ahead with plans to build a fifth casino in Southampton (Hampshire), following its High Court win against a challenge brought by Global Gaming Ventures.

Aspers, a joint venture between the Aspinall Family and Crown Resorts Australia plans to build a + US $500 million (£400 million) ‘super casino’ development on Southampton’s Royal Pier Waterfront.

Southampton City Council had awarded the casino project bid to Aspers in March 2016. However, London-based Global Gaming Ventures contested the decision, stating that its bid had been unfairly rejected by the council as unlike Aspers it had already secured building permission for its site at the Hammerson shopping development.

Last week the UK High Court ruled in favour of the City Council’s initial ruling for Aspers to win the casino contract. The decision allows for Aspers to build its fifth casino enterprise, adding to its existing properties of Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Stratford and Northampton.

Aspers’ new venue will feature approximately 150 slot machines with 30 casino game tables, a dining room area, live entertainment suite and multiple bars. Aspers details that it will create +200 jobs for the city of Southampton.
