Paddy Power – Boris delivers at conference but still faces the sack

UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson pledged his loyalty to Theresa May as Prime Minister and leader of the Tories, during a 30-minute speech at the ‘2017 Conservative Party Conference’ in Manchester.

A number of political commentators believe that Johnson may have stolen PM May’s spotlight yet again, as later today she will deliver the conference’s closing speech ‘Building a Country that Works for Everyone’

Despite Johnson’s pleas of the Tory party being in complete support of May, UK media still speculates that ‘Boris will mount a leadership challenge’ in the near future.

Updating its UK political markets, Paddy Power reacted by cutting the odds of the Prime Minister resigning within a year (Evens).

However, Paddy Power makes Johnson far more likely to be removed from his current role as Foreign Secretary (1/2) than he is to become PM in the next year (8/1), though he is the clear favourite to be the Party’s next leader (4/1).

Paddy Power further details that with Brexit Chief Negotiator David Davis hinting at retirement, and Johnson’s evident desire to move on too, it’s 100/1 that every member of May’s cabinet changes within a year.

Political Spokesman Paddy Power commented on the market: “Johnson has to Bo-Go after his latest statement of intent, else Theresa May really is a sitting duck.

“The embattled PM can’t even survive a Tory conference, where she is supposed to be queen of the castle, without being overshadowed by Boris’s massive ego. But, of course, he totally behind her – ready to stab her in the back.”
