Bookmaker BetBright has donated £10,000 to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund, after Ireland defeated Britain British 17-11 at this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
The BetBright Cup is awarded to the country with the greatest number of Cheltenham Festival winners. Following the Irish victory, the winning BetBright Cup Irish captain, snooker player Ken Doherty received the trophy on the last day of the festival. The bookmaker duly delivered on its promise to award the donation of £10,000.
Set up in 2014, the charity is dedicated to increasing awareness and raising vital funds to support injured jockeys who can no longer participate.
In a statement, BetBright reiterated its dedication to “supporting the brave men and women of racing” and hopes the £10,000 sum “helps the Injured Jockeys Fund continue to make a real difference to the lives and welfare of the heroes of the sport we love”.
The cheque was presented to the charity by BetBright Executive Chairman Rich Ricci at the Punchestown Festival on Tuesday 24th April.
