Continental China’s lottery sales rose 9% year on year to about 6.48 billion U.S. dollars in April, according to data from the country’s Ministry of Finance.

Total sales in the first four months of 2018 stood at 145.8 billion yuan, up 9.3 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Finance.In April, sales of welfare lottery tickets went up 5.3 percent to 19.7 billion yuan, while sports lottery sales rose 12.7 percent to about 22 billion yuan.

Welfare lottery sales totalled at 71.96 billion yuan in the four months to April 30, up by 2.7% from the prior-year period, while sports lottery sales increased by 16.5% year-on-year to 73.92 billion yuan.

In April, sales were up in 26 of the 31 provinces and municipalities of mainland China authorised to sell lottery tickets. Guangdong province, which last year reported the highest combined sales of welfare and sports lottery tickets, saw its sales increase 5.7 percent year-on-year in April.
