IBA Ireland unites with IGRG for Responsible Gambling Week 2018

The Irish Bookmakers Association (IBA) will work with UK counterpart the Industry Group for Responsible Gambling (IGRG) to enhance the objectives and coverage of ‘Responsible Gambling Week 2018’ (RG Week, 1-7 November).

Updating the market, Sharon Byrne Chair of the IBA has confirmed that the organisation will support IGRG initiatives on Responsible Gambling across Irish betting premises.

In Ireland, RG Week 2018 will be supported by more than 800 betting shops and head offices involving around 5,500 staff, and by the Irish Amusement Trade Association, Horse Racing Ireland and both the Irish Greyhound and Horse Racing Tote.

Commenting on RG Week initiatives Sharon Byrne stated; “We held a very successful Responsible Gambling Week in Ireland earlier this year and joining IGRG’s event in November is a great opportunity to take part in the biggest conversation we have ever had about responsible gambling.

As IBA Chair, Byrne has personally backed the headline theme of RG week – ‘Let’s Talk About Responsible Gambling’.

“We take a pro-active approach, encouraging staff to interact with customers and talk about what it means to gamble responsibly. Having a week-long event is very helpful for staff because it makes it easier for them to approach customers – it’s less personal and they are less likely to cause offence.”

In its June update the, IGRG announced that it had launched new website –  www.responsiblegamblingweek.org, providing a ‘central source’ of information on events, participants, key subject matters and supporting organisations
