Global companies bid for Yokohama IR license

Global companies bid for Yokohama IR license

Some of the best-known names in the casino segment, in addition to four Japanese companies, have expressed interests to obtain licenses in the integrated resort (IR) plan in Yokohama in Japan.

The regional government of Yokohama conducted a request for information (RFI) process, which saw 12 companies submitting plans and information. The deadline for plan submission ended on September 21.

Eight globally players, including Caesars Entertainment, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, MGM Resorts, and Wynn Resorts, have submitted their proposals. Mayor Fumiko Hayashi had already stated that there is nothing determined yet regarding a potential IR bid, but experts believe Yokohama to be among the main candidates for the casino industry to arrive in Japan, next to the Osaka, Nagasaki and Hokkaido areas. She also stands by her position on the matter, which was described as a “blank slate,” while the city remains divided on the construction of an integrated resort in the city.
