SportPesa nets principal sponsor extension with Hull City

Adam Beighton – SportPesa

Championship football team Hull City AFC has announced a one-year extension to its existing sponsorship deal with online bookmaker SportPesa.

The extension will now see SportPesa continue its principal partnership with The Tigers through to the 2019-20 season. The sports betting firm, who also feature on the shirts of Premier League club Everton, has been the Tigers main shirt sponsor since 2016.

Adam Beighton, Company Director of SportPesa, described the deal as “monumental” when it was first unveiled and spoke of the companies pride in the work that they have carried out since with Hull City.

He said: “The Club has played a very important part in our company’s growth over recent years. On the same note, we feel this partnership has been hugely valuable to Hull City in terms of growing the Club’s international fanbase and offering exposure throughout Africa and beyond.

“The Club’s commitment to this partnership made it an easy conversation when it came to the renewal, and we’re incredibly excited to be planning further innovative projects to grow SportPesa and Hull City, as well as support and inspire more communities with the work we are doing together.”

Both parties help support SportPesa’s “global mission” to support and develop professional and grassroots sports and has led to a number of successful projects between the two parties.

Such projects include the now annual ‘Kits For Africa’ campaign which has seen tens of thousands of items of football kit and equipment donated by Hull City fans for distribution amongst less privileged teams and players in Africa.

In 2017, aSportPesa All-Stars fixture saw the top footballers from the Kenyan Premier League travel to the UK to take on the Tigers at the KCOM Stadium, with the fixture broadcasted live to millions of people across Africa.

Another highlight of the collaboration came last summer when Nigel Adkins took his first team squad to Nairobi where they faced Kenyan Champions Gor Mahia in front of a crowd of more than 60,000 fans at the Kasarani Stadium.

The trip also saw the players and coaching staff visit a number of community projects and provide coaching workshops for local teams.

Joe Clutterbrook – Hull City

Hull City’s Head of Commercial, Joe Clutterbrook, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to continue working with SportPesa. The partnership has delivered some really exciting and worthwhile projects over the last three seasons and we are looking forward to continuing that into 2020.

“The Club would like to thank the team at SportPesa for their ongoing support and we see the renewal of our partnership as evidence of the fantastic working relationship we have.”

SportsPesa have also taken its first steps into the world motor racing, recently announcing title sponsorship of the Racing Point Formula 1 team.
