Spelinspektionen strengthens Gibraltar ties with GGD collaboration
Spelinspektionen, Sweden’ newly reformed gambling regulatory body has signed a memorandum-of-understanding (MoU) with the Gibraltar Gambling Division (GGD), seeking to cooperate in matters of public policy and further forming common interests.
The GGD is a strategic unit of Gibraltar’s Ministry of Commerce, detailing guidance on governing the British overseas territory’s vital igaming sector.
Moving forward, Spelinspektionen and the GGD will form closer communications and share information on ‘matters of mutual interest’ with regards to policy initiatives.
Updating stakeholders, Spelinspektionen Director General Camilla Rosenberg, detailed the importance of cooperative partnerships between international regulatory bodies.
“Some of the companies that have received a Swedish license also have technical equipment and a license in Gibraltar. By opening the communication channels between the authorities we become stronger in our supervisory activities. This is the beginning of broad and long-term cooperations.”
“Earlier this year we entered an MoU with Malta Gaming Authority and our plan is to initiate corresponding collaborations with more gambling authorities in Europe,” Rosenberg added.
Both Spelinspektionen and the GGD have agreed to provide operational assistance to one another, on a continuous basis, in accordance with both their respective procedures and regulatory policies.
GGD Executive Director Andrew Lyman supported the collaborative agreement, with Swedish counterparts –
“Gibraltar is committed to working collaboratively and effectively with first tier regulators such as the Swedish Gambling Authority who share common values in terms of consumer protection, a fair market, promoting social responsibility and reducing crime associated with gambling”
