The Racing Post has this afternoon confirmed the appointment of Ben Clissitt to the newly created role of ‘Group Sports Director’, overseeing the development and strategy of Racing Post’s sports content.

Clissitt joins Racing Post leadership, from digital news source i-newspaper where he had served as Managing Editor.

A sports editorial figurehead, Clissitt is the former Head of Sports at both The Guardian and The Telegraph Media Group, where he would hold stints as Digital Director and Executive Editor.

Updating stakeholders, Alan Byrne Racing Post’s Chief Executive and Editor-in-Chief describes Clissitt as an ‘exceptional journalist’, who will lead Racing Posts growing sports team and sports strategy.

“In addition to having ultimate oversight of the provision of the sports coverage required by the Racing Post, Ben will be devoting his energies to boosting our increasingly important business-to-business sports output and also to coordinating the creation of compelling sports content across the wider Group, which now includes Independent Content Services (ICS) in Leeds and Apsley.”

“We are also enhancing our coverage of sport in the United States and Ben will play a significant part in that project too.” Alan Byrne details.

In the update, Racing Post discloses that Clissitt will become a key stakeholder in the development of its B2B sports insights and intelligence division Intellr.

Bridging ‘in-play’ sports betting knowledge and content gaps, Intellr seeks to optimise client market and product engagements across multiple sports categories.

Strengthening its B2B capabilities, Racing Post has recently acquired a majority stake in the leading sports betting website and app business, Apsley, as well as buying Leeds-based ICS Media Group, a leading content provider and digital marketing agency.
