The governance of GAMSTOP has announced the appointment of Mike Dixon, current CEO of Addaction as a further Non-Executive Director for UK gambling’s self-exclusion scheme.

An expert in developing treatment support networks and operating voluntary communities, Dixon has served as Chief Executive of addiction recovery and mental health charity Addaction since May 2017.

The executive has held further leadership positions within the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Victim Support crime unit.

Dixon commented on joining GAMSTOP governance; “I’m delighted to join and add my independent voice to GAMSTOP at this important time. We are focusing on how to offer the best possible service to people who need help, and I’m pleased to contribute to that.”

During the course of 2019, GAMSTOP has moved to restructure its governance, seeking to become an independent entity, clearly separated from the UK gambling sector.

In its update, GAMSTOP further communicates that the organisation has changed ownership with effect from 26th September 2019.

Prior to June 2017, GAMSTOP operated at the ‘National Online Self-Exclusion Scheme – NOSES’ – an organisation founded by industry body The Remote Gambling Association (RGA)

In order to provide the organisation with greater independence, GAMSTOP has withdrawn its RGA membership with its ownership transferred to its current board of directors.

Jenny Watson, Chair of GAMSTOP said “These changes help to strengthen our independence and I would like to thank the RGA for the constructive nature of our discussions. As we continue to develop, Mike Dixon’s insight and experience will provide the operational team with strong independent challenge.”
