Expekt shuts down its UK shop
Expekt, one of Europe’s oldest online sportsbooks, has confirmed that it will no longer operate its services for the UK.
Issuing a player communication, the Betclic Everest Group subsidiary confirms its UK market closure, informing customers that it will ‘suspend its activities for the British market as of 31/10/2019’.
The legacy sportsbook will no longer accept UK deposits but will allow customers to wager on its markets until 31 October.
Closing its UK presence, Expekt customer service informs that post 31 October, the bookmaker will allow players limited access to their ‘My Account’ area, allowing customers to withdraw funds and close accounts up until 6 December 2019.
Founded in 1999 by Swedish entrepreneurs Christian Haupt and Conny Gesar, Expekt is recognised as one of betting’s first pan-European multi-language online sportsbooks.
At its peak, Expekt serviced a reported 1.8 million registered customers, which would see the company sold in 2008 to French online gambling group Mangas Gaming Group for €125 million.
Expekt’s European presence is maintained in the markets of Sweden and Poland under the management of Betclic Everest.
