New BA governor Axel Kicillof appoints Omar Galdurralde as IPLyC lead

Argentine business news sources report that newly elected Governor of Buenos Aires Province Axel Kicillof is set to appoint close associate Omar Galdurralde as the new Director-General of the Argentine Provinces Board for Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC).

Kicillof, Argentina’s former Economic Minister, takes charge of Buenos Aires executive, having won BA Province’s 27 October governorship election against former incumbent Maria Eugenia Vidal.

A seasoned BA politics and business operative, Omar Galdurralde is set to replace Argentina PRO Party appointee Matías Lanusse as Director General of the IPLyC.

Galdurralde is the former Finance Director of  ‘IOMA’, a medical assistance and workers programme for BA provinces, during the governorship of Javier Mouriño.

Further political experience has seen Galdurralde sit on the board of directors of BA state-owned Banco Provincia, a position he would resign from during Maria Eugenia Vidal governorship tenure.

Further news updates disclose that Galdurralde will appoint Carlos Gallo, the former Chief Executive of Argentina’s liquidated National Lottery as Vice President of the IPLyC.

As yet, little is known with regards to Kicillof’s views on whether to progress BA province’s online gambling agenda, as the Justicialist Party remained tight lipped on Argentine gambling reforms during 2019 campaigning.

Interrupted by provincial and national elections, the governance of IPLyC failed to publish any of its anticipated licensing criteria for international operators to compete in Buenos Aires online gambling tender process.
