Paddy Power – Too Hot To Handle vs Love Island will be lockdown’s biggest market

Paddy Power has backed Netflix recently launched dating show ‘Too Hot To Handle to outperform ITV’s ‘Love Island, the current kingpin of reality TV shows.

Launched this weekend, Too Hot To Handle sees US streaming giant Netflix develop its first exclusive reality dating series, seeking to woo audiences starved of entertainment content during the lockdown period.

Noting a positive reaction to the dating show’s first episode across social media channels, Paddy Power tips Too Hot To Handle to amass more views than ITV’s last edition of Love Island, pricing market odds 1/2.

A brave call by the bookmaker, as Love Island’s 2019 series garnered a record 6 million viewers dominating ITV’s summer entertainment schedule.

In order to outmatch Love Island, Netflix executives will hope that a significant chunk of the streaming platform’s 12.5 million UK subscribers will ‘catch the Too Hot bug’.

However, a closer inspection of social media reactions has seen a number of viewers brand Netflix’s dating series as a ‘ cheap gimmick of Love Island’, bearing little distinction from  ITV’s headline show.

Amy Jones – Paddy Power

Launching Paddy Power’s latest entertainment market Amy Jones UK PR & Mischief Champion said: “From a documentary on tigers in captivity to a dating show with randy singletons in captivity, Netflix has provided two of the biggest streaming hits of the year so far.”

“With a huge reaction on social media, Paddy Power predict series two will be on the way as soon as possible. Furthermore,  Netflix producers may even opt to release a winter edition a la Love Island.”

Paddy Power – Netflix ‘Too Hot To Handle’ Odds:

  • 1/2        To amass more views than the last series of Love Island
  • 4/7        Series two to be released in 2021
  • 8/11      Any former Love Island contestant to go on the show
  • 2/1        An all-British version of the show to be released
  • 2/1        Two or more seasons of the show to be released in 2021
  • 4/1        ITV to broadcast the show in the UK
