Unibet backs #GoRacingGreen as lead racing charity

Unibet, the flagship sportsbook property of Kindred Group Plc, has announced its support of British horseracing’s #GoRacingGreen project – making UK racing accessible to those who suffer from mental health problems.

The #GoRacingGreen project was launched in 2019 by racing enthusiast and entrepreneur Deborah Matthews, who openly blogged about how equine activities helped her overcome her struggles with mental health.

Matthews has expanded #GoRacingGreen to help other sufferers of mental health issues cope with dementia, autism, ADHD, PTSD, self-confidence and loneliness.

The success of Matthews’ grassroots project has led to the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and Racecourse Association (RCA) authorising #GoRacingGreen as headline charity initiative.

Unibet has become the first bookmaker to support #GoRacingGreen, which has become a charity of the wider Kindred Group sponsorship model.

“Tackling mental health is at the core of Kindred’s commitment to become the sponsor of choice for sporting organisations and their communities and reinvent sponsorship so that it benefits places and societies,” stated Ed Nicholson, Head of Kindred Group UK.

Embarking on its new sponsorship, Unibet has made an investment in #GoRacingGreen, helping the charity further expand its mental health support network across UK racetracks and stables.

Furthermore, the bookmaker will donate 1-in-3 of its UK racing advertising sports to help promote the young charity.

Backing Unibet as partner, Deborah Matthews added: “This investment is a fantastic boost for the #GoRacingGreen project, and I am delighted to be working with Kindred through its Unibet brand. Working in partnership with them, we can now expand the programme and reach many more people with mental health problems across the racing community in the months ahead.”
